Washington Trip August 3rd - 9th, 2010

We had such a fun and memorable trip to Washington to visit Dave's brother and his family who live in Sequim up on the peninsula. We took the trip at the beginning of August (...is it really October already!!!!). It was such an adventure getting there and back. An adventure that was perfect for a 3 year old boy because of all the methods of transportation it took to get to Sequim. Plane, bus, train, and ferry. It was awesome!!

We flew into Seatac and spent the night there. I have to mention this because this is where Benson took his first steps.... at the Denny's in Seatac, which is where we had dinner that night. I think our family eating there was as much excitement as that Denny's has had for a while because the waitresses were freaking out about our kids (like wanting to play with and hold them). The older couple sitting next to us must have seen us struggling to keep our kids calm while we waited for our food and then actually get the food into them because after they left the waitress told us that they had paid for our dinner that night. SO KIND!!! That renewed my faith in humanity. There are nice, generous, family oriented people out there.

The next day we played in Seattle for a bit before we took the ferry over to the peninsula. I'm so mad at myself because we had the hotel hold our luggage and I left my camera. GRRRR!! So I don't have any pictures of Seattle. We didn't have too much time to explore but we went to Pike's Place, rode the merry-go-round down on the harbor(Jesse's favorite) , and went to the aquarium (Jesse was really intrigued by the seals and otters). We were traveling with Dave's parents and it was so wonderful to have their help getting the kids and luggage all over town since we were using public transportation. Then came the ferry ride over. So COOL!! Dave's brother Gary met us at the Ferry dock to transport us to his place; about an hour and a half drive of the most beautiful terrain I've ever seen.

On to the Pictures!! These are pictures of the rest of the adventures we had while in Washington.

Salt Point
looking for sea critters

Crescent Lake
Such a beautiful glacier lake. We had lunch here, waded and swam a bit, and hiked partially around the lake again through the most lush and gorgeous terrain that I've ever seen.

This lake is SUPER DEEP!! Look at how turquoise blue that water is!!!

We might be on vacay but baby's gotta nap.

Our last stop of the day was a short hike to this waterfall. So cool!

Sequim Beach
Looking for sand dollars

Jesse and Julia are only months apart. They had so much fun playing with each other!

Ow Ow! Showing off a little leg. :)

The Berry Farm
I loved the berry farm! You bring buckets and just go pick away: blueberries, blackberries, boysenberries, raspberries. You have to pay for what you take out but you're welcome to eat as many as you want while you're picking. And we did. ;)

Delish!!!! Is your mouth not watering like mine just looking at those!!!

Andrew enjoying a raspberry

Andrew, Jesse and Julia showing me what they just picked.

This field was next to one of the berry patches. I just had to snatch a picture.

Port Angeles
Yes you Twilight lovers. THE Port Angeles. Are you jealous?
Gary and Kristen live about 20 minutes away from Port Angeles so we had to got check out all the Twlilight sites (which imaginary people, vampires, and werewolves never actually went). But fun anyway! Dave and I got to leave the kids and go enjoy a little date night. Is Dave not the best husband for actually going along with this. Actually I think he was more excited about it than I was.

We went and watched the "Eclipse" movie at the Lincoln Theater which is the one mentioned in the books a couple times. Then on to dinner at Bella Italia where Bella and Edward had their first "date." (Except they really didn't). This town was totally twilight crazy. They're totally milking it any way they can.

Here's the bookstore that Bella goes to in the first book. So fun, and funny.

While we were in Washington, almost everyone, one by one got sick with the stomach flu. It was a really bad bug too. Well today it finally hit Benson and Jesse so we took it easy and spent the night cleaning up after our boys.

Sequim Marina
After church we went down to the Sequim Marina. We watched a sailboat head out of the bay, spotted some seals....

Jesse got to hold a jellyfish...

...and Andrew and Dave caught a little crab. Jesse was a little nervous to touch it but not Benson. He probably wanted to eat it.

Railroad Bridge
We got to enjoy a beautiful sunset while exploring the railroad bridge.

You can look down this wooden path about at far as you can see. Probably 1/2 mile or so.

We traveled home the next day. The flu bug hit Dave while we were actually traveling and he was so miserable the whole way home. I was lucky because at least we made it home with 5 minutes to spare before it hit me. However, despite the flu bug we completely enjoyed out trip to Washington. It was so fun to stay with Dave's brother especially because Jesse got to play with his cousins. I definitely fell in love with Washington during our stay there and I hope we can make it back soon.

Oh, you're making me miss Seattle! Such a beautiful place. And those raspberries...they would be worth the trip by themselves! Glad you had fun. By the way, we need to have a playdate. Jackson talks about Jesse a lot- he never usually talks about specific friends after he plays with them!
