Jesse and I were able to take a trip to Maryland to visit my Aunt Karen (my Mom's sister) and her family last week. My cousin Tyler (in the picture below) had recently returned from his mission to New Caledonia and was giving his "homecoming" talk in his ward. (As a side note, Tyler went to the same mission that I was called to once upon a time. Not only is that crazy because we're cousins but also because there are only like 4 sisters and 8 Elders called to that Island at a time.)
We used Tyler's homecoming weekend as an excuse for a visit. Tyler did have a few other supporters in town however. My mom also flew out along with my Mom's sister Connie, her brother Monty and his wife Pam. It was a full house but it's always fun with the Larson family!

The Baltimore Aquarium
The highlight of our trip, for Jesse, came on our first day in Baltimore where we got to visit the aquarium. He was so excited to "find nemo" and Dory! He also saw lots of other fish, dolphins, sharks, turtles, rays, and alligators. This was a great outing for him. They had a 4D movie that we got to watch too. It's called 4D because when the whale splashes in the water something from the chair in front of you squirts you with water. Jesse didn't like that one bit. Every time he was squirted he would break into tears. He was probably most fascinated with the bubble pillars though. There were no fish in them. Just a bunch of pillars filled with water that constantly had bubbles floating through them. I had to pull Jesse away in tears, but overall this was a very successful outing.
Twilight DVD
Another fun but mostly crazy part of the trip was deciding at midnight to go get a Twilight DVD the night they were released. All the girls piled in the car and went off on this little adventure like we were teenagers. We were a little confused however about which stores were open and selling it so it took us an hour and a half before we finally found it and we didn't get home until 2 AM. Yeah crazy, but fun. It was fun to watch it with all of my family who are Twilight fans the next night. I'm sure my mom would like me to clarify that she's not a fan.
Happy 2nd Birthday Jesse!
Jesse's birthday was Sunday the 22nd and even though we're still going to celebrate it with Dad and other family back in Utah, we also took the liberty to celebrate it with family in Maryland. This is Jesse with his birthday cake and with his Aunt Grandma (my Aunt Karen), after opening some presents. Thank you to all who helped Jesse to have such a fun Birthday!
Philadelphia
There's so much history within an hour or two of my Aunts house. We made it out to Philadelphia one day to see some of the sites there. It was freezing!!! I couldn't help but think of all my friends and family back in Utah who were enjoying 70 degree weather while we were walking around Philly bundled up in a coat, hat and gloves. I love going and learning about the historical sites but I have to admit that I didn't learn as much doing it with a 2 year old.
This is Jesse and I in the front and inside of Independence Hall. This is where the Declaration of Indepedence and Constitution were drafted and signed. Jesse got a little bored with the tour guide's lecture.
Here we are with the Liberty Bell.

The Dog!
Another highlight of the trip for Jesse was my Aunt's dog Tag. You don't really get how huge this dog was compared to Jesse in these pictures but the Dog was definitely taller than Jesse and weighed probably 3x's what Jesse weighs. This made me a little nervous but Jesse liked the dog right from the get-go. He cried a couple times when the dog barked at him, but it never took long for Jesse to go start chasing after the dog again. What's funny is that Tag also took a liking to Jesse and was even sort of protective. He didn't like me or anyone else picking Jesse up, especially when Jesse didn't want to be picked up. He'd start barking or try to jump up on you. Those 2 had a lot of fun together following each other around. Every once in a while Tag would just wait outside my and Jesse's closed bedroom door and when I'd finally open it he'd be looking at me as if to ask, "Can Jesse play?" Jesse got more and more confident with the dog as the week went on and by the last couple days he was ordering the dog around like the rest of us would do telling him "No" and "sit!" It was hillarious and although Jesse loved having a dog for a week, I'm not seeing a dog in the plans for us. My gosh they're so much work!
This was a super fun trip for us! Thank you Folkman's for letting us stay with you, driving us around everywhere and for spoiling Jesse and me.
