Camping and Fishing at Gooseberry

We were able to go camping over the 4th of July weekend with Dave's brother Matt and new wife Marianne, and our friends James and Wendy. I was a little nervous about going camping almost 8 mos. pregnant but even more anxious to get out and have adventures before this baby comes. I survived thanks to a spacious tent with an excellent rain fly, an air-mattress and a nearby restroom-type-thing. It really was a lot of fun and I'm really glad we made the trip.

We camped at Gooseberry reservoir up Fairview canyon. This is a great spot for camping and fishing. We had beautiful weather during the day but it did rain during the early morning. Again, I'm so grateful for the rain-fly!

Actually we did have kind of a funny situation with the rain the afternoon we were leaving. We packed up all of our stuff that morning and left it on the picnic table at our campsite which was a couple miles away from the lake. We didn't load it up because we were planning on fishing for a while first and needed the space to transport the row boat to and from the lake. When we were done fishing we noticed one dark cloud coming in and started hurrying back to our campsite to get our stuff, but we were honestly cut off (had to hit the breaks) by another truck that proceded to drive no more than 5 mph, in front of us, all the way back to our campsite. Unfortunately while that truck was taking it's sweet time it started raining and hailing. We were going crazy thinking of all of our stuff getting wet while we were stuck behind this truck. We got back about 2 mins too late and desperately ran around hauling our stuff left out in the open into the truck. Pretty much as soon as we got all the stuff loaded and started driving off the rain stopped and there wasn't a cloud in the sky. Fun stuff! Oh well, memorable anyway.

Dave helping Jesse reel in his first fish. Can you spot it? I don't know what special fishing gift Dave has but he caught a fish almost every time he cast. Amazing!! (and a little frustrating for those of us that didn't catch anything).

We borrowed Dave's Dad's rowboat and were able to boat and fish all around the Lake. Jesse finally understood what the song "Row, row, row your boat" was talking about and proceeded to sing it almost the whole time while were we out.

Jesse reeling in a big one! He had so much fun fishing and still occasionally asks if we can "catch a fish" over a week later.

Jesse enjoying throwing rocks in the river. Beleive it or not he prefers this to fishing.
